Office Hours

The Clerk’s Office in Cedar Rapids is open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Clerk’s Office in Sioux City is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All hours are Monday thru Friday, except for the following legal holidays:

All pleadings and correspondence relating to Cedar Rapids or Eastern Division cases should be directed to the Cedar Rapids office. All Central and Western Division correspondence should be directed to the Sioux City Clerk’s office.

Filing Requirements

Proper Division. 28 § 95 U.S.C. The Northern District comprises four divisions. The Cedar Rapids division comprises the counties of Benton, Cedar, Grundy, Hardin, Iowa, Jones, Linn and Tama. The Eastern (Dubuque) division comprises the counties of Allamakee, Clayton, Dubuque and Jackson (Waterloo) comprises the counties of Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Delaware, Fayette, Floyd, Howard, Mitchell and Winneshiek. The Central division comprises the counties of Butler, Calhoun, Carroll, Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Webster, Winnebago, Worth and Wright. The Western division comprises the counties of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Crawford, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, Monona, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, Sac, Sioux and Woodbury.
