PUBLIC NOTICE
FOR REAPPOINTMENT OF INCUMBENT MAGISTRATE JUDGE
The current term of office of United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Roberts, who is located at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, courthouse, is due to expire on September 16, 2026. The United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of Judge Roberts to a new 8-year term.
The duties of a magistrate judge in the court include but are not limited to the following: (1) conduct most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) conduct trial and dispose of misdemeanor cases; (3) conduct various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from a district judge; and (4) conduct trial and dispose of civil cases upon consent of the litigants. The basic authority of a United States magistrate judge is specified in 28 U.S.C. § 636.
Comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether Judge Roberts should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the court and should be directed to: Paul De Young, Clerk of Court, United States District Court, Northern District of Iowa, 111 7th Avenue SE, Box 12, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401.
